FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do the sizes 000-5 mean?

These numbers tell you how much powder or oil your capsules can hold. The larger the number, the smaller the capsule size: Size 000 is the largest capsule size and size 5 is the smallest.

Because each powder has a different density, the amount of powder that can fit in each capsule goes by the powder’s weight. This chart estimates how much powder (in weight) you can fit in each capsule size.

For comparison, at most the largest capsule size, 000, can hold ~1/2 teaspoon of powder or oil. Every capsule size decreases from there. However, one of our Blate Papes can hold much more than the largest capsule, if needed!

What is a Blate Pape and why do I get free samples with my order?

Blate Papes are thin gel films made of only potato starch and water. Similar to a capsule, they allow you to swallow powdered herbs and supplements without tasting anything.

The difference is in capacity, ease of use, and ease of swallowing. Blate Papes allow you to take and swallow multiple grams of powder at once, while capsules can only hold at most 1 gram of powder. How? When dipped in water, Blate Papes soak into a gel around your powder. This makes the powder soft and delicate, which allows you to easily swallow it at once without tasting anything. It breaks apart instantly in your stomach, so anything you take will kick in about 15-20 minutes faster than with capsules. We include Blate Papes Gel Film Pouches with every order so customers who make their own supplements can see for themselves whether or not they may find them useful for the substances they take.

Blate Papes aren’t meant to replace capsules, but rather they both work better for certain powders or scenarios. It all depends on the needs of the user. For example, kratom users tend to find Blate Papes to be extremely useful, as they have to take 2+ grams at a time, they want it to kick in sooner, and it really tastes bad without them!

Which size do most people buy?

Size 00 is the most common capsule size ordered, followed by size 0. You can fit between 1/2 to 3/4ths a gram of powder into one size 00 capsule, and up to a half gram into a size 0.

Can you use different size capsules in the same machine?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to mix different capsule sizes with machine sizes. A size 00 machine can only be used to fill size 00 capsules, size 0 to fill size 0, 000 to 000 and so forth.

This is because nearly every plate on each machine is customized to the diameter of a single capsule size. Changing all these plates would cost the same as buying a second machine, yet it would also mean having to constantly remove and readjust them, making it too difficult and impractical.

However, there are machines like this that exist at the professional level. For example, our 300-hole Professional-Operation Series capsule filling system allows for the removal and changeover of capsule sizes with optional size-change plates.

Prototype feedback

This capsule machine is a big upgrade from our last one! Love that we can take it apart and clean inside of it so easily. One gripe I do have though is the bolts that hold the top plate on are easy to lose! One fell onto the floor while we were cleaning and POOF, it was gone. Luckily there are a couple extras but it is something to note!

I wanted to leave some feedback for the prototype powder guard part you sent us:

Overall we really like it! It's a ways better design to keep the powder on the sides while filling. The one issue is that the tamper doesn't fit inside the square, so it still has to be removed when tamping. It's nice it has rubber on the bottom though for setting it down on the table with powder on it between tamps.

If that one thing is fixed, that new powder guard will be perfect! Thanks for letting us test it out!

We haven't tried the Blate Papes yet but they look interesting. Overall, the whole experience ordering from you was great. I'm sure we'll be back for more separated capsules soon!

Thanks so much for your feedback! The new Powder Reserve we're testing is supposed to be able to be used with the tamper without taking it off! This was a big error on our part!

Great for small batches

Very happy with the 100-hole model. It’s perfect for small batches and doesn’t take up much space, but still feels super sturdy. I do wish the powder guard had a fourth wall though.

I want to change my rating from four to five stars. BlateCo reached out to me and apologized for their oversight, and gave me the instructions I needed to adjust the capsule machine. I can tell by their response that they were sincere and even eager to assist me.

I purchased a Pro 100 capsule filler. I've had one for about ten years. This one is not as thick, but it is just as good. I am satisfied with it and would recommend it as a high-quality piece of equipment.
The only reason I did not give it five stars is that I reached out to support because the capsules were a bit high and wanted to know how to adjust. They never got back to me. I finally figured it out for myself.

I noticed you mentioned the Pro Series 100 not being as thick as your older machine. I did want to point out that the thickness of each Pro Series machine depends on the size of the capsule it's rated for! The size 000 capsule machine is the thickest (and it is THICK), while the thinnest will of course be the size 5 version. This due to the height of the capsules being different, and so each machine will have a different 'max press' length to ensure that size is closed completely upon pressing.

To answer your question about adjusting the heights of the capsules, there are two ways to adjust them on the Pro Series machines:
1. Slightly loosen each of the body plates star-shaped hand-twistable plate stops until the top plate is in the position you want (you can tell its correct because each capsule body will be just below the surface of the plate, ensuring that your powder spreader does not scrape when you spread past them). If the amount of adjustment you need is more than the top star bolts can allow, then you'll want to move on to the permanent adjustment solution below.

2. If it's more than just a slight adjustment, what you'll want to do is fully tighten all the star bolts on top of the body plate by hand. Then, we're going to go one by one and adjust each foot assembly until the entire top plate is perfectly raised or lowered according to your capsule bodies. To start, remove all the metal/rubber feet on the machine. Then pick any spring/foot assembly and put a capsule body in hole nearest to it. Loosen the bolt on the bottom of the leg with your 8mm wrench. This will allow the leg assembly to be twisted. Twist the entire screw clockwise to lower the plate, or counter clockwise to raise the plate. After twisting in the direction you need, let go and check the capsule body to see if the top plate is just above the top of the open side of the capsule. If not, continue adjusting until it is. Once it's in the correct position, take your 8mm wrench and tighten the bolt on the bottom of the leg. Then do the same thing for every leg on your machine. There are 4 for the pro 100, 6 for the pro 400, and 12 for the pro 800! Note for those with The BEAST™: be careful when re-tighening the bolts on the 800 hole machine that rest against the acrylic! Overtightening these can cause the acrylic to crack if you're not careful!
