How to Use the Custom Supplement Formulation Calculator
Use this free capsule formulation calculator to make your own custom supplements with the exact ingredients and dosages you choose. You can combine multiple ingredients in each capsule, set the desired dosage of each ingredient, and use a filler powder to fill the remaining capsule space.
This tool is different from our simple Capsule Size Calculator, which calculates how much of a single powder will fit into different capsule sizes but does not let you build a custom multi-ingredient formula with exact dosages.
Supplies Needed:
- Your Main Ingredient(s) – The active powders you want in each capsule.
- Your Filler Powder – The powder we'll use to fill any remaining capsule space.
- A Measuring Device – Such as a tablespoon, teaspoon, measuring cup, or another volume-measuring device.
- Digital Scale – For a tablespoon or larger, 0.1g to 0.01g readability will work. For smaller than a teaspoon, use a 0.01g (10 mg) or 0.001g (1 mg) scale for accurate results. This Digital Powder Scale works well for most users.
Step 1: Measure Your Supplement Ingredient(s)
- Pack your powder into your chosen measuring device as tightly and level as possible.
- Weigh the powder and enter its weight into the calculator.
- Select the measuring device you used.
- Enter the desired dosage of that ingredient for one complete serving.
- If your formula contains more than one main ingredient, click Add Active Ingredient and repeat the process.
Step 2: Measure Your Capsule Filler Powder
- Enter the name of the filler powder you plan to use.
- Pack the filler powder into your chosen measuring device as tightly and level as possible.
- Weigh it and enter both its weight and the measuring device used.
Step 3: Choose Your Capsule Batch Size
Enter the total number of physical capsules you want to fill.
Step 4: Calculate Your Custom Capsule Formula
The calculator will determine the density of each powder, calculate how much space each ingredient requires at your desired dosage, and recommend the best capsule size for your custom supplement formula while requiring the least amount of filler powder.
If your complete supplement serving will not fit into a single capsule, the calculator will automatically determine how many capsules are needed per serving.
To Make Your Capsules: The results will also tell you the total amount of each ingredient required and how to mix them together. Weigh out that amount of each ingredient and follow the mixing instructions to mix them together evenly. Then just fill your capsules using the recommended capsule filling machine and capsules.
