How to Use the Capsule Formulation Tool
This tool lets you choose the exact dosage(s) you want of the ingredient(s) in your capsule. To do this, you use a "filler powder," which can be anything you want.
This tool is different from our simple Capsule Size Calculator (of which you use only one ingredient, but you don't get to choose the exact amount it holds).
Supplies Needed:
- Your Main Ingredient(s) – The active powders you want in each capsule.
- Your Filler Powder – The powder we'll use to fill any remaining capsule space.
- A Measuring Device – Such as a tablespoon, teaspoon, measuring cup, or another volume-measuring device.
- Digital Scale – For a tablespoon or larger, 0.1g to 0.01g readability will work. For smaller than a teaspoon, use a 0.01g (10 mg) or 0.001g (1 mg) scale for accurate results. This Digital Powder Scale works well for most users.
Step 1: Measure Your Main Ingredient(s)
- Pack your powder into your chosen measuring device as tightly and level as possible.
- Weigh the powder and enter its weight into the calculator.
- Select the measuring device you used.
- Enter the desired dosage of that ingredient for one complete serving.
- If your formula contains more than one main ingredient, click Add Active Ingredient and repeat the process.
Step 2: Measure Your Filler Powder
- Enter the name of the filler powder you plan to use.
- Pack the filler powder into your chosen measuring device as tightly and level as possible.
- Weigh it and enter both its weight and the measuring device used.
Step 3: Enter Your Batch Size
Enter the total number of physical capsules you want to fill.
Step 4: Calculate
The calculator will determine the density of each powder, calculate how much physical space your desired dosage requires, and recommend the capsule size that fits your formula while requiring the least amount of filler powder.
If your complete serving will not fit into one capsule, the calculator will automatically determine how many capsules per serving are required.
Important
Try to measure each powder using the same packing technique you will use when filling your capsules. Powder density can change depending on how loosely or tightly it is packed.
